This painting came from a place of deep grief and reckoning. While working through the heavy emotions of surviving sexual assault, I turned to art as a way to give voice to what is often silenced.
I’ve always been struck by the story of Medusa—wronged, punished, and demonized for something she never asked for. In this piece, I imagined her reclaiming power, delivering justice. His hair transforms into snakes—the same fate forced upon her.
In his hair, I painted the words “we did not ask for it”—a reminder, a protest, and a truth survivors carry.
This work is about rage, reclamation, and survival.
